Sometimes your day will not go as planned. In my case, my day started out just fine. I had the day off, I had a few errands to run, and Grace was going to a friend's house. I ended up at Target for one of my first stops with Tucker. After asking Tucker to sit in the cart, instead of standing, I kiss him on the head at checkout. The cashier (a young man) gives me a hard time and tells me I'm babying him. Not once or twice, but several times. He gives me a hard time that I bought Barbies (for Grace's Christmas) and not cars. He asks if the Barbies are for Tucker. He asks if Tucker is an only child and when I say he has an older sister, he says, oh that's why you baby him. I am very annoyed by this time and choose not to say anything instead of lecturing him on his rude behavior and how there's much worse ways I could be treating my son than giving him a kiss. Following, I get a call from work asking if I could maybe come in because someone got sick. Um...how about no (is what I'm thinking) But, I say I will try to find a babysitter (on my own sweet time of course). We go home early, skipping the grocery store because Tucker is fading fast. Waking up at 6:30 am now wears on him and he's ready for his nap earlier. Tucker goes to sleep and I have some time to myself. Ahhh, peace and quiet. The guilt of not being able to go into work is wearing on me now. Maybe I will go in after Grace gets home and Tucker wakes up, I think to myself. I make 4 calls to find a babysitter and all no's. Well, at least I tried, but man I could use the money I'm thinking..Tucker wakes up a little earlier than normal, but I make the best of it and plan to head to the grocery store (second attempt for the day). I arrive at the grocery store and get another phone call, hmmm, I won't answer cause I don't recognize the number. I listen to the message, oh wait! Um...remember that phone interview for insurance you re-scheduled for today over 2 weeks ago? Yeah, that's right now...Whoops! We leave the grocery story (sans groceries) and race home, to return call and hope I can still do my interview. Thankfully yes, I do my phone interview and head out to pick up Grace at her friend's. I am met by a crying Grace who says she doesn't want to go home and wants to go play at everybody's house. Maybe tonight she can have a sleepover at Ava and Jaiden's? she asks. This is almost a daily occurance. I herd her out the door, crying, grumpy and holding onto the fact that she'll get to go to the grocery story. We go to the grocery story (finally, after 3 tries!). The kids spot the cadillac of grocery carts, you know, the kind with the car on front. They hop in , and I pray they'll stay there the rest of the trip. But no, too good to be true. Soon, they're climbing in and out of the car, standing on the edge, running around and there's me...trying to calmly ignore it all as to avoid going balistic on the children. We finally get to the aisle. Kids are crying to get out (after I had forced them to be buckled). Grace promises to "not be silly" so I get them out to stop the wails. And yet, no promises are kept, as they climb on and over the bars, unhook the chains blocking the checkouts, screaming and yelling like wild animals. Then there is me, not making eye contact with anybody in the store so as to avoid the glares as my children practically tear the place apart. We make it out of checkout and head to the car. I very firmly buckle the children in their seats and start to head out, chastising them on their behavior the whole way home. Grace breaks down (did I mention no nap) and proceeds to explain her behavior as "an accident" and "i didn't mean to" and "tucker did it, so i did it too," which is followed by a "so,so,so,so sorry mom." grace explains (through her whining and tears) that she doesn't like going to more than one grocery store a day (although it was her first trip today) and that her favorite store is fry's, not albertsons. (frys has a kids center, albertsons doesn't). tucker is meanwhile, oblivious to even what happened and why grace is sorry. such a boy thing. so that takes us here, at home, where i am not leaving again for the day (at least not with my children).
***and did I mention, I spent the whole nightmare trip at the grocery store with only one hoop earring in? I'm sure the cashier had a good story to tell that night

Oh Bonnie, I sure do know what you mean. I have had nightmare days like this, but to make matters worse, my youngest will poop in the middle of all the madness and of course I will have forgotten to bring a diaper bag. We feel like the worst mothers in the world, but just remember that it happens to EVERYONE and NOBODYS kids are perfect angels. Take care, Jenny
I always wondered what days like these would look like all typed out. I'm exhausted just after reading through your day. Hang in there lady!
oh my, i've had those days too. so sorry! at least it's over. :)
Now I need to go take a nap to recover from reading this! I've actually started carrying a bag of lollipops with me everywhere we go to use for bribery in situations like this. Well, I started it this week anyway but so far haven't used them since I haven't taken the kids anywhere since the grocery store the other day.
It's so great that you recorded all this because you can show it to the kids later on, when they're old enough to appreciate you.
