we(my parents and i) really didn't mess around when planning this trip. we impulsively decided the sunday after the kids were done with school to leave the following thursday to the beach + sea world. i was a smart cookie and didn't tell the kids till wednesday night. thursday night we got there around sundown and headed straight for the beach that was located right down the street from us. what started out as a just "looking" short trip, turned into all 3 of us soaked and sandy. but the kids couldn't wait to get more. friday we headed to sea world, where we fed the sea lions, caught the last half of shamu show, got soaked on the rapids ride (where grace cried) and raised my blood pressure by riding the skyride over the ocean. it was a good day which ended in the *&#* gift shop where it took tucker 3 changes of his mind and 1 1/2 tantrums before he chose a pink flamingo as his souvenir and grace with a dolphin named dolphy. saturday, we invaded sheila + mario + little joely, who were hanging out in oceanside and hit their beach all day. i mean literally, all day. my kids loved it. tucks even took a snooze on the beach after a brief stunt of "i want to go home, i'm freezing" crying 2 hours after we got there. after some shut eye, he was good to go the rest of the day. grace probably ran the same mile of the beach 40+ times over. it was her own personal heaven. it was a short trip but so so fun. can't wait to go back!

So fun!! I want to take my kids to the beach so bad. We just need to do it like you and just go :) Looks like it was a lot of fun!!
I can't wait to go back again too! So funny that Dad and I are all covered up while the rest of you are frolicking. What old people we're turning into. But seriously, my favorite part of being at the beach is just sitting in the shade reading or napping and listening to the sound of the waves crashing. An occasional walk to break up the day is nice too. And seashells, altho in CA there are precious few. A simply perfect day.
beautiful....
